The Greater New Haven Help Alliance

We Believe...

That the Shalom of God (i.e., completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord) are the result of prayer followed by hard work and, whenever necessary, fierce battle. In order to see the level of Shalom increased within the Greater New Haven Community, we have formed an alliance of like-minded, faith-based individuals and organizations who are determined to do our part to see peace prevail!

Peace to you and yours!!!

Help Us IN OUR EFFORTS TO SEEK THE SHALOM of THIS CITY AND ITS SURROUNDS...

The Greater New Haven Help Alliance
Gang of Dads

The plight of fatherless youth is far-reaching...

Consider the following:

1. Nearly 75 percent of fatherless American children will experience poverty before the age of eleven.

2. Fatherlessness is the number one cause of poverty in America,

3. Children living in hones where fathers are absent are more likely to be expelled from school.

4. They are more likely to drop out of school, develop emotional or behavioral problems, commit suicide, and fall victim to child abuse or neglect.

5. Fatherless males are far more likely to become violent criminals (fatherless males represent 70 percent of the prison population serving long-term sentences).

In order to help alleviate the problem in Greater New Haven, a growing number of men have volunteered to engage troubled youth. Young people who are involved in some form of adjudication or restorative justice are given specific formal agreements that delineate expectations and responsibilities of the young person, their guardians, and the Gang of Dads to foster more positive outcomes in their lives.

Greater New Haven Help Alliance Launches collaborative adopt-a-school program

On Wednesday, November 28, 2012, under the covering of the Greater New Haven Help Alliance, over 20 volunteers representing 5 churches and one Youth organization launched the Church adopt-a-school program at Lincoln Bassett School in New Haven.

We were warmly welcomed by Principal Ramona Gatison, her staff, parents and a group of the most cordial 7th and 8th graders you'd ever want to meet!

Volunteers will assist school personnel as mentors and tutors in math, reading and Social Studies.  We'll actually start as soon as next week.

Principal Gatison's commitment to excellence is obvious. The school motto is "Excellence without excuse. Let it begin within!"  As part of their literacy enhancement effort, the school has launched a competitive program inviting students to read a very ambitious 50 books this school year! Wow!  I was so personally moved by the call to excellence that I offered to add to the incentive providing three Kindle Fires through the Help Alliance! What a fantastic investment!
