You helped send Henry home

On Friday, February 19, 2010, in all too familiar urban drama, a young man (Henry) was seriously shot here in the city of New Haven. This extremely gifted and very much loved young man was simply on his way home from work.

Bullet fragments lodged perilously close to his spinal cord have impacted nerve endings,  leaving Henry in excruciating pain. The doctors feel that there is simply too much risk involved with trying to remove the fragments. Henry is physically able to walk but the resulting pain is, so far, unmanageable.

Thank you for raising the funds needed by the family to move from their second floor apartment to the first floor unit required in order to bring Henry home! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! $2154 Raised in 2 days!
Henry's Going Home! God Bless You!

Also, thanks to you.......

We were able to deliver 100 2-room tents to our friends in Port-au-Prince!  We're now collecting shoes, backpacks, and duffel bags to ship to Haiti.  More info to come....

The Director's Corner

October 7, 2009

Dear Friends of the Greater New Haven Help Alliance,

I am both privileged and humbled to take the helm as the new Executive Director of the GNHHA.

This remarkable organization has already done incredible things in its first year of existence. We have been able to help many people in need. Among other things, locally and nationally, we have helped provide food and clothing to shelters, soup kitchens and food pantries.

On a global scale we have helped dig wells in Rwanda, air lift food to survivors of the hurricane that devastated parts of Haiti, and helped those hit by the terrible earthquake in Peru.

Assisting the poor locally and nationally, and  the extreme poor globally and is one of our top priorities.

Our newest and most pressing mandate commits us to become effective community partners in overcoming widespread academic failure. We desire to provide hope and vision to directionless youth and to assist broken families with the support they so desperately need.

As a faith-based organization, the GNHHA exists to grow healthy and connected communities that are rooted in well nurtured families through an extended support environment. Our goal is to assist young people to become engaged learners and provide families with a safe and supportive environment.

In order to best provide these valuable services to our local community, we are undertaking the building of a youth center. The "Pro-Teen Center" will be housed in an existing 9,000 SF warehouse space located at 95 Hamilton Street in New Haven.
